Answering answering-ansar.org: 100 questions for Sunnis

Answering-Ansar mentions in this article one Abdul Kareem Mushtaq, a Shia scholar who was fatally shot (much to the chagrin of the author of the article, as the strong language shows) as a result of his efforts in clearing many doubts regarding the Shia sect and presenting things he considered doubts in the Sunni sect. Those who shot him did so to silence him, according to the article, and silenced him in a way only Mu'awaiyah's followers would, according to the article. By 'Mu'awiyah's followers', no doubt the author of the article means 'persons who are out of the fold of Islam'. Well, then: certainly Ayatollah Khomeini was out of the fold of Islam when he issued a Fatwa ordering the killing of Allamah Ehsan Elahi Zaheer, a Sunni scholar who did the same things the Shia scholar Abdul Kareem Mushtaq did, only with a different viewpoint.

That said, we shall now proceed to answer each and every one of the 100 questions for Sunnis that the Shia scholar put forth in a book (conveniently put into batches of 10 by our counterparts), and ignore all ominous warnings (presented by the author of the article) of how difficult they will be, and uninformed assertions regarding the absence of any sort of response from the Shia because of a lack thereof.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

1. It is an established fact that all things are recognised by their name, even Allah (swt) first taught names to the father of Mankind Adam (as). Your sect also has names such as Sunni, Ahl' ul Sunnah or Ahl'ul Sunnah wa al Jamaah. Direct us towards any such verse of the Qur'an wherein any of these names have been indicated.

'Sunni' and 'Ahlussunah wal Jama'ah' have not been worded in the Quran, but they very simply mean 'follower of the Prophet Muhammad (saw)' and 'the People of the Sunnah and the Shoura (council)'. The Muslims would not have felt the need to resort to labelling themselves thus had they not felt the need to differentiate themselves from the Shia 'Muslims'. In fact, Sunnis and Ahlussunah wal Jama'ah are nothing but Muslims, so rightly it should be the word 'Muslim' that the good Abdul Kareem Mushtaq should be searching for in the Quran, if he were truly looking for any mention of the Sunni Muslims, as they now must be known, by Allah (swt) in His book.

Perhaps the kind scholar (or any other Shia scholar or Shia man would like to take his place, seeing as he exists no more) would take the trouble to direct us to any verses wherein 'Shiat Ali' has been mentioned in the Quran? But there are none of those either, rest assured. The word 'Shia' itself has been mentioned in the Quran, but never 'Shiat Ali'. In fact, Allah (swt) tells us in the Quran to 'not be among the Shia', saying in Surat Ar-Rum:

30:31

[Adhere to it], turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of the mushrikeen (those who associate others with Allah)

30:32

[Or] of those who have divided their religion and become Shia (sects), every faction rejoicing in what it has.

Allah (swt) states in excruciatingly clear terms that we, as Muslims, are not to be amongst the Shia (sects) who will divide their religion into sects, and divide the religion of Islam is unfortunately exactly what the Shia 'Muslims' have done.

In Arabic, these two verses taken together could mean, 'do not be of the mushrikeen, the mushrikeen who divided their religion' or it could mean 'do not be of the mushrikeen or those who divide their religion into sects'. Nothing can definitely be established, but to speculate, the former meaning certainly seems to be closer to the true meaning, because if it were the latter that was meant to be the meaning, the Arabic word for 'or' could easily have been used, as it has been many times in the Quran. However, since it wasn't used, nothing definite can be established.
Still, we are told by the Lord of the Universe to not be amongst the Shia, mushrikeen be they or otherwise.

Then Allah (swt) tells his Prophet (saw) that he is not to associate himself with Shia who divide their religion into sects and to leave their affair to Allah (swt) to judge, saying in Surat Al-An'am:

6:159

Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects - you, [O Muhammad], are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only [left] to Allah ; then He will inform them about what they used to do.

Now Allah (swt) orders his Prophet Muhammad (saw) to not associate himself with the Shia, and goes on to explain exactly who the Shia are: 'those who divide their religion'.

These ayaat are very pertinent to the discussion, as they show:
  • That Allah (swt) is well aware of people's intentions towards His religion, namely dividing it into many little sects
  • That Allah (swt) does not approve of this division and orders Muslims and his Messenger (saw) alike to never associate themselves with people who go ahead and commit this atrocity against Islam
In this day and age, we are aware that what Allah (swt) prophesised 1400 years ago has come to be, and, more importantly, we are aware of what course of action to adopt (namely not be part of the Shia, those who divided Islam) as Allah (swt) has provided extremely clear and unambiguous instructions regarding that.

In spite of this, the Shia will insist that these verses have nothing to do with their case. Following from their reasoning, whatever it may be, there has been provided ample reason for the good, albeit late, Abdul Kareem Mushtaq that there would come no good for 'Sunni' or 'Ahlussunah wal Jama'ah' to be mentioned in the Quran either.
